Beloved friend and 20-year volunteer reader for WXXI Reachout Radio, Mary Soon McCarty passed away on Feb 4, 2018 at age 92. Mary was a vibrant, kind and generous woman who loved sports (especially tennis and swimming which she did until late in life), gardening, dogs, and developing relationships with the people she met. Mary was also a generous philanthropist, knowing the importance of supporting those things which meant the most to her. She was generous with her finances, time, talent and enthusiasm. We at WXXI Reachout Radio have been missing her since she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her children. Her life and legacy will live on in all who knew Mary well.
